Joseph Habersham Chapter

The Joseph Habersham Chapter of the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution was chartered on November 21, 1996 in Clarkesville, GA and seeks to perpetuate the purpose of the SAR with its support of “Remember Our Veterans” by collecting Christmas gifts for the Veterans who are in the Georgia Veterans Home, Milledgeville, GA, veteran’s events, patriot grave marking, JROTC awards and contests, Scouting, educational, historical, and patriotic interests in the communities we serve. Joseph Habersham Chapter is proud of its dynamic Community Support Programs which is comprised of its Speakers Bureau, its “Traveling Trunk” presentations for schools and community organizations, and as such is recognized as one of the premier chapters in the Georgia Society, as well as in the Nation. The Joseph Habersham Chapter serves and most members reside in the Georgia counties of Habersham, White, Rabun, Stephens, Banks, and Franklin Counties.

The Joseph Habersham Chapter meets on the second Tuesday of the months of January, March, May, August, October and December for a Candlelight Service, 6pm dinner and program speakers at the Crossroads Cafe, 4654 GA Highway 115, Demorest, Georgia 30535. There is plenty of parking available.

Our genealogy collection is located in the William H. Raper Heritage Room, Clarkesville Public Library, 178 E Green St Clarkesville GA, For membership information contact Registrar/Genealogist Bill Raper 706-754-4413 ext 0007 Bill Raper , and contains a wealth of resources for patrons who are researching their family histories. The Heritage Rooms collection includes a thorough assembly of marriage, birth and death certificates, obituaries, the federal census index, cemetery directories, and property records from Habersham and surrounding counties dating to antebellum times. The resources are available through a variety of media including newspaper clippings, microfilm/microfiche, pension record books, Cherokee Indian rolls, state and county history books, directories, journals, maps, and family histories bound either in book form or collected in three-ring binders.
