SUMMARY:Interment of 14 Patriot Soldiers in Camden\, SC
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE from the National Society SAR Commander \nAttention National Color Guardsmen and Compatriots travelling to Camden this weekend for the Ceremony honoring the 14 Revolutionary War Soldiers being reinterred at Camden Battlefield. \nColor Guardsmen will rally at the Cornwallis/Kershaw House at 0730 Saturday morning for safety\, flag\, and uniform inspections. \nBecause of VIPs in the audience\, all Continental Line reenactors and SAR Color Guardsmen participating have been directed to remove their flints from all our weapons. We will inspect and the National Society SAR Commander has to sign a form certifying SAR compliance that morning before we will be allowed to participate. \nThe funeral cortege will form beginning at 0830 and procession is now scheduled to begin at 0900. We will carry flags so bring what you got!  The Georgia Society SAR flags will be making the trip. \nThe same rules apply for the initial 1500 afternoon ceremony for the public. Keep your flints with you in your kit bags or flint wallets. In the afternoon we can carry state and historic flags\, but not US Colors. The US Army Old Guard will be the only Color Guard at the afternoon ceremony. \nSunday morning’s SAR Wreath Laying will start at 0900 and we will have weapons and flags. Color Guardsmen rally at 0800 at the Quaker Cemetery for inspections. \nSemper Gumby (Always Flexible) remains the daily order for the weekend. I look forward to seeing everyone of you there for this once in a lifetime opportunity. \nPlease share this with others that you know are going to be there \n*************************** \nFrom the South Carolina Society SAR \nINVITES YOU TO A RECEPTION AND LUNCHEON FOR: NSSAR PRESIDENT GENERAL C. BRUCE PICKETT AND HIS WIFE \nRECEPTION: FRIDAY APRIL 21\, 2023 – 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. \nLUNCHEON: SATURDAY APRIL 22\, 2023 – 12:30 P.M. (RSVP required with payment) \nTHE CAMDEN AMERICAN LEGION POST 17\,  1333 CHESTNUT FERRY ROAD\, CAMDEN\, S.C.\, (N 34.24658 W 80.62476) \n***************************** \nInterment of 14 Patriot Soldiers on the Camden Battlefield in Camden\, SC \nPlanning is underway by SCBPT and Camden area partners for re-interment ceremonies April 20-22\, 2023\, in Camden.  “When these young men marched into the darkness on that summer night in 1780\, they did so out of love for their country despite the consequences that may befall them. Our intent is to lay them to rest with the respect and honor they earned more than two centuries ago.” \nBased on preliminary field examinations it is believed that twelve bodies are Patriot Continental soldiers from either Maryland or Delaware\, one is likely a North Carolina Loyalist\, and one served with the British 71st Regimen of foot\, Fraser’s Highlanders. \nThe S.C. Battleground Preservation Trust is still  in the process of completing their plans for this (THEIR) event. Below are some activities that our SCSSAR is working on for all our SAR attendees. The Camden American Legion Post 17\, 1333 Chestnut Ferry Road\, Camden (GPS coordinates to follow)\, will be our “base of operations”.\n\nFriday\, April 21st: Hospitality time sponsored by the SCSSAR at the Camden American Legion Post. 3:00 – 7:00.\nWe have the Post reserved all day Friday and Saturday. It is available to us those mornings also if some groups wish to meet\, organize or just rest up. There is a free concert by the OLD GUARD ARMY BAND at 6:00 Friday afternoon on the grounds of Historic Camden nearby. (open to public)\n\nSaturday\, April 22nd:  The Funeral Cortege is at 8:30 A.M. with the Funeral at 11:00 A.M. There will be a PG’s luncheon at the Post immediately after the funeral. Registration for the luncheon will be $32.00. Limited seating.\nThere will be a Re-interment Ceremony at the Camden Battlefield at 3:00.(open to public)\n\nThe S.C. Battleground Preservation Trust (SCBPT)\, has a  Dinner Theater at 7:00 P.M. by paid invitation only.\n\nThe above plans are subject to change if the SCBPT request (and we agree to) additional participation in the event from our SAR group.\n\nHotel information will be forthcoming. Areas to look at include Camden (probably filled to capacity/ maybe some pricy B&Bs open); North East Columbia\, off I-20  and only 30 minutes away; Florence\, S.C. on I-95 just 1 hour away: Sumpter\, S.C.\, 1 hour away.
