DESCRIPTION:Vigil at George Washington’s Tomb \nA National SAR event in VA \nDate appears to be September 16\, 2023\, at \nMount Vernon\,  3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway\, Mount Vernon\, VZ   22121 \nMarch to the Tomb is at 8:30 AM with tomb shifts every 15 minutes beginning at 9:00 AM.  Closing ceremony and march back to the Mansion begins at 4:00 PM. \nDetails and electronic signup will be announced at a latter date. \n  \nNSSAR Guardsmen\, The National Color Guard staff cordially invites you to honor our patriot commander and join us at Mt Vernon for the annual George Washington Tomb Vigil of Saturday September 17th. \nThere are several hotels close to Mount Vernon \nHampton Inn & Suites – Fort Belvoir Alexandria South \nCandlewood Suites – Alexandria – Fort Belvoir\, an IHG Hotel \nBest Wester Plus – Mount Vernon/Fort Belvoir \n  \nWe have again been given permission to bring our weapons\, under the following stipulations: \n\nCommanders may wear their swords\, all blunted edged and only removed from their sheaths when marching the guard.\nNo other knives will be allowed.\nMuskets may be carried by the guard as they march and stand guard at the tomb.\nNo powder\, ball or bayonets are to be brought onto the property.\nThere will be a safety check preformed in the parking lot before any guardsmen can move any further on the property.\nAll muskets must always be in the control of guardsmen and all additional national weapons safety rules are to be followed.\n\nDue to the steepness of the hill from the Estate to the tomb please consider your ability to traverse a 800 foot 4 percent grade before signing up. \n

Our Combined SAR Color Guards will support the Augusta Chapter\, NSDAR in conducting Constitution Day activities at St. Paul’s Church\, 605 Reynolds Street. \n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. SUMMARY:Commemoration of the Siege of Augusta - 1:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:Second Siege of Augusta 1781\n2023 Commemoration\nDate: Saturday\, September 16\, 2023\nTime: 1 pm\nPlace: Kroc Center Auditorium\n\n1:00 PM – 1:45 PM. We will conduct the commemoration ceremony in the comfortable 300-seat Kroc Center Auditorium. The ceremony will consist of bringing greetings\, a battle seminar by Historian Steven Rauch and wreath presentations.\n\nFollowing the indoor ceremony\, we will go out to the battlefield behind the Kroc Center to watch a mock battle reenactment demonstration to be conducted by our militia and artillery sections firing black powder muskets and six black powder cannons.  SAR\, DAR\, C.A.R. and other patriotic and lineage societies and chapters are invited to participate in a formal wreath laying ceremony as part of the program.\nParticipants presenting a wreath need to fill out the following form and return it.\n\nPlease check in with Sue at the registration table by 12:30 PM.\nContinental\, Militia or period attire is encouraged.\nTo ensure your organization’s recognition in the program and receive a flag streamer\, please complete\, and return the registration form provided to Sonny Pittman\, Event Coordinator\, at:\nsonnypittman@comcast.net\nSonny and Sue Pittman\, Event Coordinators\n2202 Holly Haven Court\, Augusta\, GA 30907-3779\n(706) 860-1050; sonnypittman@comcast.net and shpittman@comcast.net\n\nThis year we are asking that adults please make a $5.00 donation to help us defray expenses of conducting this commemoration event (auditorium and lunchroom rental and cost of the black powder for the musket and cannon firers – Sonny Pittman
