DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, October 20\, 2022\, at 10:00 AM\, a ceremony will be held at the Kettle Creek Battlefield for the installation of a new entrance sign. \nCongressman Jody Hice will be making remarks about the affiliation of the Kettle Creek Battlefield with the National Park Service. \nAs part of the ceremony\, we would like to have members of the Georgia Society Militia conduct a musket firing. \n\n\n\n Who:  Congressman Jody Hice Kettle Creek Battlefield Association\, and other historic preservation leaders \n  \nWhat:  Kettle Creek Battlefield Sign Ribbon Cutting \n  \nWhen:  10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Thursday\, October 20\, 2022 \n  \nWhere: Entrance of Kettle Creek Battlefield \n106 War Hill Rd\, Washington\, GA 30673 \nGPS: N33.691 W82.886 \n(Nine miles southwest of Washington\, off Georgia Route 44) \n  \nEfforts to have Kettle Creek Battlefield made into a national park date back nearly 100 years. On multiple occasions\, U.S. Senator Richard Russell pushed for acquisition of the property. Throughout the 1970s\, Georgia Representative Robert Grier Stephens\, Jr. and Georgia Senator Herman Talmadge introduced bills to establish Kettle Creek as a national monument. More recently\, Rep. Hice welcomed NPS Acting Director Dan Smith to the site and introduced legislation (H.R. 306) to direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a special resource study of the battlefield. The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives on December 3\, 2020.
