DESCRIPTION:Siege of Savannah – 2023 Battlefield Memorial March \nIn the early morning hours of October 9\, 1779\, the Battle of Savannah occurred on the current grounds of Coastal Heritage Society’s Tricentennial Park.  The battle was one of the bloodiest of the American Revolution\, where approximately 800 troops died or were wounded. \nOn Monday\, October 9th\, 2023\, the Society\, our friends\, donors\, patriotic organizations\, and community leaders will follow in the footsteps of those who fought that day\, 244 years ago. \nOn behalf of Coastal Heritage Society\, we invite you to attend the 2023 Battlefield Memorial March to honor those who fought\, fell\, and sacrificed for our freedom.  The event will include a ceremonial march on the path of the allied attacking columns\, followed by a dedication of stones and a presentation of wreaths to commemorate the fallen soldiers. \nOn Monday\, October 9th\, participants will meet at 8:45 AM in the Savannah History Museum parking lot at 303 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The march will begin promptly at 9:00 AM and will proceed down West Boundary Street and along Louisville Road\, where it will conclude at Battlefield Memorial Park. The ceremony will be held at Seaton Creek Historic Preserve Park at 10:00 AM. \nIf placing a wreath and/or participating in the color guard\, please arrive no later than 9:30AM to register your wreath. The park is located off I-95 at Exit 366 then head west 2.5 miles on Pecan Park Rd. to 2145 Gold Star Family Parkway / Arnold Rd.). On multiple occasions\, U.S. Senator Richard Russell pushed for acquisition of the property. Throughout the 1970s\, Georgia Representative Robert Grier Stephens\, Jr. and Georgia Senator Herman Talmadge introduced bills to establish Kettle Creek as a national monument. More recently\, Rep. Hice welcomed NPS Acting Director Dan Smith to the site and introduced legislation (H.R. 306) to direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a special resource study of the battlefield. The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives on December 3\, 2020.

DESCRIPTION:Subject: 2022 Battlefield Memorial March \nIn the early morning hours of October 9\, 1779\, the Battle of Savannah occurred on the current grounds of Coastal Heritage Society’s Tricentennial Park.  The battle was one of the bloodiest of the American Revolution\, where approximately 800 troops died or were wounded. \nOn Sunday\, October 9th\, 2022\, the Society\, our friends\, donors\, patriotic organizations\, and community leaders will follow in the footsteps of those who fought that day\, 243 years ago. \nOn behalf of Coastal Heritage Society\, we invite you to attend the 2022 Battlefield Memorial March to honor those who fought\, fell\, and sacrificed for our freedom.  The event will include a ceremonial march on the path of the allied attacking columns\, followed by a dedication of stones and a presentation of wreaths to commemorate the fallen soldiers. \nOn Sunday\, October 9th\, participants will meet at 6:45 AM in the Savannah History Museum parking lot at 303 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. SUMMARY:The Gathering at Sycamore Shoals
DESCRIPTION:The Gathering at Sycamore Shoals celebrates the 242nd Anniversary of the Overmountain Men mustering for their march across the mountains to meet and defeat the large Tory army led by Maj. Patrick Ferguson at the Battle of Kings Mountain.  The celebration takes place at the Sycamore Shoals State Park in Elizabethton\, TN on Saturday\, Sept. 10\, 2022\, at 10am. \nThis is a National SAR Color Guard Event with wreath presentations and musket volleys. \nOn Friday\, we plan a four Patriot Grave Marking in downtown Greeneville\, TN at the Old Harmony Cemetery. There is also a Real Daughter to be honored by the DAR buried here. \nWe have made arrangements with the historic General Morgan Inn in downtown Greeneville for a block of rooms at a discounted rate. The Grave Marking is only two blocks from the hotel. \nThe Grave marking will be on Friday morning at 10am. \nThe rest of the day\, you will be free to tour the Andrew Johnson Homestead and Tailor Shop; the historic \nDickson-Williams Mansion; the historic DAR house\, home of Johnson’s great grand-daughter; the City Garage Car Museum; and the Greene County Museum. All these are within a two block walk of the hotel\, plus beautiful downtown Greeneville offers quaint shops and restaurants. \n  \nFriday evening\, we plan to have a two-meat buffet dinner in the beautiful Convention Center Dining Room of the Gen. Morgan Inn. Reservations are required. We will have a special guest speaker and plenty of opportunities to meet and greet. \n  \nThe Commemoration will be on Saturday\, September 9\, 2022 at the Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park
