SUMMARY:Education Day - Brier Creek Weekend
DESCRIPTION:We will have 4 sessions 9:00\, 10:30\, 12:00\, 1:30 at the battlefield with the following schedule for each. \n245th Anniversary of the Battle of Brier Creek Weekend – Friday\, March 1\, 2024 \nContact our event coordinator for reservations. \nSTATION #1: Dr. John Derden will share ideas for upcoming tours &amp; present an overview\nof the history of the battlefield &amp; the direction to be taken to ensure a maximum acquisition\nof the findings on the site &amp; its preservation. \nSTATION #2: Steve Burke will share his lifetime collection of Revolutionary period\nartifacts\, weapons\, clothes\, etc. with assistance from Alton McCloud\, Lee Herron\, and\nBernard Martin. \nSTATION #3: Ted Walker and Allen Mincey will demonstrate Revolutionary tent\nencampment\, weapons and their display of Revolutionary items. \nEACH SESSION WILL DIVIDE INTO 3 EQUAL GROUPS AND REPORT TO A STATION.\nEACH STATION WILL LAST 15 MINUTES AND THEN ROTATE TO NEXT STATION. \n After each session\, there will be a demonstration and firing of the Brier Creek Militia and the Brier Creek Artillery of our 50 Cal. Flintlock rifles\, 75 Cal. Brown Bess Muskets\, 69 Cal. French Charleville Muskets\, one 6-pounder Naval Cannon\, two 6-pounder Field Guns\, one 6-pounder Coehorn Mortar and an 8-pounder Field Gun. SUMMARY:Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Association Inc. - Annual Meeting and Dinner Banquet
DESCRIPTION:We will be celebrating the 245th memorial service for the Revolutionary War\, Battle of Brier Creek\, the first weekend in March. As a part of this memorial service we will be having the Annual Meeting and Dinner Banquet for the Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Association Inc. on Friday night the 1st of March. \nWe would very much hope you will join us for this event\, we have an excellent speaker lined up and I am sure you will enjoy his program and the evening. Our speaker will be Mr. Larry Sanders and he will speak on the battle and did General Ashe deserve to bear most of the blame for the defeat at Brier Creek. Larry just completed a book on the battle and General Ashe and it will soon be in print. \nAlso Georgia Southern University Museum will have a display case at the annual meeting with a number of artifacts that have been recovered from the battlefield on display. This will be the first time these items will have been displayed. I am really excited about having the opportunity to see these artifacts\, most of them were recovered during the 2014 archeological survey. \nWhat:                 Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Association Annual Meeting and Dinner Banquet \nWhen:                 March 1st (Friday) from 6-9 pm \nWhere:               Forest Heights Country Club (3772 Country Club Road\, Statesboro\, Georgia) \nThe Dinner will be Buffet Style: Roasted pork loin with caramelized onions in Dijon wine sauce\,  Fried chicken\, macaroni and cheese\, lemon-parmesan herb roasted red potatoes\, roasted broccoli\, southern green beans and garden fresh salad with dressings\, dinner rolls with whipped butter and assorted desserts\, the price per person is $40.00. \nThe attire for the evening is Business Casual. \nThe annual memorial service will be held the next day\, Saturday the 2nd of March\,  at the memorial located on the Tuckahoe Wildlife Management Area. The memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM. \nThe guest speaker\, Mr. Dan McMichael\, who will be talking about the possibility that George Washington visited the battlefield when he made his tour through Georgia. We will also be dedicating the flagpole that is being installed at the memorial site and you will also be able to see the work that will be in progress on the entrance sign that is being constructed on Brannen’s Bridge Road. \nThis memorial service is sponsored by the Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution and the Brier Creek\, Wiregrass\, and Mill Creek chapters of the organization. DESCRIPTION:To: SAR\, NSDAR\, C.A.R.\, Society members\, Re-enactors\, Skunk Brigade members\, Historical Societies\, Historical Presenters and Educators\nSubject: Living History Event: 13 March 2024\nPlace: South Aiken High School\, 232 East Pine Log Road\, Aiken\, SC 29803\nTime: Start Time – 10am to 3pm\nRequest: Revolutionary war period Living history presenters to participate Re-enactors/Militia//Color Guard Members\, participants for South Aiken High School Students Living History Event to be held at South Aiken HS\, Aiken SC.\nFrom: Ted Walker\, State President \, SCSSAR \nThe South Carolina SAR and the Henry Laurens Chapter\, Aiken SC want to sponsor a living history event at South Aiken High School that would also include elementary\, middle and High school students. This would be a historical Living History event with period dress militia\, muskets and cannons along with the “Traveling Trunks” and presenters’ of 1700s life. The focus would be a historical teaching event with hands on learning we also will offer hands on learning about 18 th Century life in Georgia and South Carolina. We are asking for your help in finding groups who would like to participate in this wonderful teaching opportunity. We will be allowed to perform demonstrations of all kinds so just let us know your requirements. Tent flies\, camp fires\, black smiths\, woodworks\, skins\, pelts\, artifacts anything that demonstrates the period life will be allowed we just need to work out the details.
