DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED due to weather related issues in the area.\nThe Henry Laurens Chapter (Aiken) South Carolina Society and the Colonel William Few Chapter (Augusta) Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution \nCordially invite you to attend the \n244th Anniversary Commemoration of the First Siege of Augusta \nSaturday\, 1:00 PM\, September 28\, 2024 \nSalvation Army Kroc Center Auditorium\, 1833 Broad Street\, Augusta\, Georgia \nSchedule of Events: \n\n9:30 AM – 12:00 PM. We will host a combined meeting of the Georgia and South Carolina C.A.R. in the Kroc Center Auditorium.\n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. The local SAR chapters with assistance from the Augusta Chapter\, NSDAR\, will host a luncheon consisting of BBQ sandwiches\, potato salad\, and tea provided by Larry Sconyers BBQ in the Kroc Center Lunchroom. There will also be dessert. You must sign up for the luncheon in advance and the cost is $16.00 per person.\n1:00 PM – 1:45 PM. We will conduct the commemoration ceremony in the comfortable 300-seat Kroc Center Auditorium. DESCRIPTION:October 19th\, 2024\, Saturday (10:30 am) – Battle of Yorktown Victory Parade\, Yorktown\, VA\nEvent Level: National\nHost/POC: Thomas Nelson Jr Chapter VASSAR / Gary Hodges.\nLocation:  Yorktown\, VA.\nFiring Event: No \nDetails: The Siege of Yorktown\, also known as the Battle of Yorktown\, the surrender at Yorktown\, or the German Battle\, ending on October 19\, 1781\, at Yorktown\, Virginia\, was a decisive victory by a combined force of the American Continental Army troops led by General George Washington and French Army troops led by the Comte de Rochambeau over a British army commanded by Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis. The culmination of the Yorktown campaign\, the siege proved to be the last major land battle of the American Revolutionary War in the North American region\, as the surrender by Cornwallis\, and the capture of both him and his army\, prompted the British government to negotiate an end to the conflict.\nParade formation may be viewed here (click on link): Yorktown SAR Formation\nNote: this event also marks the bicentennial of the return of the Marquis de Lafayette to Yorktown in October 1824 and is expected to be a significant commemoration.
