SUMMARY:Memorial Day - Marietta National Cemetery - 8:00 AM
DESCRIPTION:RAIN or SHINE\nMarietta National Cemetery has requested a color guard and musket firing for the event on Saturday\, May 23. The Marietta National Cemetery event begins at 8:00 a.m. and they have requested that color guard and musket firing participants arrive early (by 7:00 a.m. or so at the latest).\n \nBrad Quinlan\, when he reached out to me in February\, said that the Secretary of the Interior has implemented a new requirement before musket firing at these kinds of events\, that the musket firing individuals be provided a brief safety training. Hence\, the early arrival request time. Brad knows that the SAR color guard members who fire muskets are well trained and apologized for the need\, but apparently some kind of incident occurred last year that made the training/safety requirement be put in place (not related to these events)\n \nHere is the link to the National Memorial Day Association of Georgia website for the Marietta National Cemetery to confirm the date/timing for the Saturday flag placement event.

SUMMARY:National - (MO) - Battle of Fort San Carlos Commemoration
DESCRIPTION:I extend a heartfelt welcome and seek your attendance and command of Color Guard activities at the 2026 Commemoration and Grave marking Ceremonies at Ste. Genevieve\, Missouri. Most years the event has been held the Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day. However\, in 2026\, Missouri Society is hosting this national Color Guard event on May 31.\n \nPlease plan on attending and drop a pin on your calendar for this ceremony. We have had 30 plus color guard for the prior 3 years\, and enjoy the full support of the community and their local militia group.\n \n2026 is a special year that honors the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It will be a two-day event in Ste. Genevieve. The French Colonial Museum and historians will be Saturday’s highlight. \n \nIf plans come together\, a first-time grave marking for a patriot may also get worked into Saturday’s schedule. The rural cemetery is south of Ste. Genevieve about 60 miles.\n \nIf your schedule permits\, stay a night or two. The town is blessed with some very nice restaurants and shops for the spouse if she joins you.\n \nI look forward to seeing you! MOSSAR will notify everyone when online registration is established.\n \n\nSteven G Perkins\nMissouri Society SAR – Ozark Mtn Chapter\nChapter Registrar/Genealogist\nState Color Guard Commander
