SUMMARY:National (NJ) - Battle of Red Bank
DESCRIPTION:Battle of Red Bank Commemoration \n\nSunday\, October 20\, 2024\n10:00 AM  11:00 AM\n\n\n111 West Military Drive\, National Park\, NJ\, 08063United States (map)\n\n\nGoogle Calendar  ICS\n\n  \nJoin in the commemoration of the 1777 assault on Fort Mercer of the grounds surrounding the original fort in Red Bank Battle Field Park\, National Park\, NJ. The anniversary of this important Philadelphia Campaign attack should be an especially interesting and action-filled event. At this event\, guests can tour the Whitall House. Constructed in 1748 for James and Ann Whitall\, this house was designed in the Georgian style and became the centerpiece of their 400-acre plantation on the banks of the Delaware River. During the American Revolution\, the house was adjacent to Fort Mercer\, the site of a colonists’ victory over the Hessians. Following the battle\, the house was used as a hospital. Acquired by the county in 1904\, the house and grounds are interpreted as Red Bank Battlefield Park and are open to the public on a daily basis for recreation. \nClick here for more information about the Battle of Red Bank and the Whitall House. \nNATIONAL COLOR GUARD EVENT: \nThe Memorial service for the 14 Continental Soldiers killed as a result of the Battle of Red bank will start at 1 PM and include the following highlights: \n\nSpecial Memorial Service for the 14 Rhode Island soldiers for the 1st and 2nd Rhode Island Regiment. We hope to include a representative from the 1st or 2nd RI Regiment and the Hessian Unit.\nJen Janofsky\, Curator/Director of Red Bank Battlefield\, is scheduled to speak\nHonored during the ceremony will be recognition of the Hessian Soldiers who gave their lives that day. A speaker will overview the recent archaeological dig at the North end of the park\, unveiling bone fragments from over 17 Hessians. Specific identification of the fragments is still being conducted. This is the largest find of Hessian soldier remains from the Revolutionary War.\nLegacy Marker/Heritage Flag Ceremony is planned to be conducted after the Memorial Service\nContact: Tim Ogline\, SJCSAR President\, Larry Nelson\, SJCSAR Secretary\nColor Guard: F&D? Arrive 1215. Events starts 1-1:15\, Legacy follows; Reenactment 2:15\nAttending: Ogline\, Nelson\, McGill\, Williams\, Serfass\, Davis\,\n\nSource: https://friendsofredbank.weebly.com/18th-century-field-day.html

SUMMARY:National (FL) - Galvez Day - Battle of Pensacola
DESCRIPTION:The National Society SAR and the Florida Society SAR invite you to a National SAR event honoring The Battle of Pensacola and General Bernardo de Galvez.\nSchedule (all times are in Central Time):\n08:30 – Color Guard Muster at Fort George \n09:45 – Color Guard procession from Fort George down to the Galvez Monument \n10:00-10:30 – Ceremony at the Galvez Monument \n11:30 – 2:30 – Luncheon at Pensacola Yacht Club (Reservations are REQUIRED.  Link below) \n3:00 – 3:30 – Wreath Laying at the Minuteman Monument in Veterans Memorial Park \n  \nThe Color Guard will have the pleasure of once again being under the command of Scott Collins\, Vice President General for the NSSAR South Atlantic District and the NSSAR Color Guard Commander. \nYou’ll note that there are some changes to the schedule from what has been published.  There is no service at St. Michael’s Basilica this year due to scheduling problems\, so the overall ceremony in the morning will be much shorter.  Also\, the women from the DAR will be “mustering” with the color guard up at Fort George and following behind the Color Guard as we come down Palafox Street to the Monument.  Unlike past years\, I have asked that the color guard not have to stand flanking the monument with the flags for the entire ceremony but rather post the colors and be able to then find a seat or find some shade.  The City of Pensacola is running the morning ceremony\, and they have asked that we not retire the colors at the end of the ceremony. \n  \nFor those who are staying for the luncheon and the wreath laying\, Rhonda Brach\, the current Regent of the Fort Pickens DAR\, has offered her house at 903 N. Spring Street for Color Guardsmen and others to come and cool off a bit before heading to the Luncheon at 11:30. \n  \nLink to purchase a ticket for the Luncheon:  https://ecom.roller.app/uwfhistorictrust/galvezpublicluncheon/en-us/home \n
