SUMMARY:National (NJ) - Battle of Springfield
DESCRIPTION:Battle of Springfield Commemorative Wreath Laying\n\nSaturday\, June 21\, 2025\n3:00 PM  4:00 PM\n\n\nBattleground Cemetary39 Mountain Ave.\, Springfield\, NJ 07081 (map)\n\n\nGoogle Calendar  ICS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHelp us commemorate the 244rd anniversaries of The Battle of Springfield\, June 23\, 1780\, and the Battle of Connecticut Farms\, June 7\, 1780. These were two of the most important battles of the Revolutionary War and the last to occur in the northern theater. In two successive attacks\, British and Hessian troops tried and failed to finally capture George Washington and defeat the Continental and New Jersey Militia forces that had kept them bottled up in New York City for several years. At Springfield\, the second of the two battles\, referred to by some as the “Forgotten Victory\,” roughly 1\,500 Continentals\, including the 3rd NJ Regiment\, and an undetermined number of militia units\, blocked over 6\,000 British and Hessians from attacking the main body of Washington’s army through the Hobart Gap. Two weeks earlier\, the town of Connecticut Farms\, since renamed Union\, was largely destroyed by the invaders in a similar failed attempt. \nOn June 22 at 3 pm the NJSSAR Color Guard will participate in two wreath layings commemorating the Battles of Connecticut Farms and Springfield\, beginning at Battleground Cemetery\, 39 Mountain Avenue\, Springfield\, and continuing with a march to Springfield First Presbyterian Church where a second wreath will be laid. \nWebsite: Click here \nContact: Christopher Sands rex44roger@aol.com

In the event of inclement weather\, the ceremony will be moved inside the Community Center at Oconee Veterans Park. \nThe Foundation is pleased to announce that additional names are being accepted for future engraving on the reverse side of the North Wall of Honor as part of Phase III of the Memorial. General donations are encouraged to help support the ongoing maintenance of the Memorial grounds.   \nAll proceeds from Phase III will go toward construction and upkeep of the wall\, as well as the presentation of the 39 Killed in Action names from Oconee County.  This project is made possible in part by generous support from the Reverend John Andrew Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution\, Oconee State Bank\, Wells Fargo\, Oconee Foundations\, LLC\, Ruppert Landscape\, and many other Friends of the Memorial. \nWall of Honor nomination forms will be available at the ceremony. Please help us spread the word as we continue to honor our fallen heroes.\nThe Oconee Veterans Memorial Foundation\, Inc. SUMMARY:National (FL) - Galvez Day - Battle of Pensacola
DESCRIPTION:The National Society SAR and the Florida Society SAR invite you to a National SAR event honoring The Battle of Pensacola and General Bernardo de Galvez.\nSchedule (all times are in Central Time):\n08:30 – Color Guard Muster at Fort George \n09:45 – Color Guard procession from Fort George down to the Galvez Monument \n10:00-10:30 – Ceremony at the Galvez Monument \n11:30 – 2:30 – Luncheon at Pensacola Yacht Club (Reservations are REQUIRED.  Link below) \n3:00 – 3:30 – Wreath Laying at the Minuteman Monument in Veterans Memorial Park \n  \nThe Color Guard will have the pleasure of once again being under the command of Scott Collins\, Vice President General for the NSSAR South Atlantic District and the NSSAR Color Guard Commander. \nYou’ll note that there are some changes to the schedule from what has been published.  There is no service at St. Michael’s Basilica this year due to scheduling problems\, so the overall ceremony in the morning will be much shorter.  Also\, the women from the DAR will be “mustering” with the color guard up at Fort George and following behind the Color Guard as we come down Palafox Street to the Monument.  Unlike past years\, I have asked that the color guard not have to stand flanking the monument with the flags for the entire ceremony but rather post the colors and be able to then find a seat or find some shade.  The City of Pensacola is running the morning ceremony\, and they have asked that we not retire the colors at the end of the ceremony. \n  \nFor those who are staying for the luncheon and the wreath laying\, Rhonda Brach\, the current Regent of the Fort Pickens DAR\, has offered her house at 903 N. Spring Street for Color Guardsmen and others to come and cool off a bit before heading to the Luncheon at 11:30. \n  \nLink to purchase a ticket for the Luncheon:  https://ecom.roller.app/uwfhistorictrust/galvezpublicluncheon/en-us/home \n
