Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Scholarship

The Georgia Society Eagle Scout Scholarship Contest is open to all Eagle Scouts who are currently registered in an active unit and have not reached their 19th birthday during the year of application.  (The application year is the calendar year, 01 January to 31 December.)  The year that Eagle was awarded is not restricted.  College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the cash scholarship.

State First Place Award is $550.00, while runner-up receives $400.00.  The State winner will advance to the National Contest where First Place ward is $10,000, 1st Runner-up award is $6,000, and 2nd Runner-up award is $4,000.  You may apply more than one year if you meet the age requirements but no more than $10,000.00 in total awards from National may be granted to any one Eagle Scout.

Entrants need complete only application – the one for the Chapter competition.  The application of the Chapter winner is forwarded to be used in the State and National competitions as appropriate.  The application consist of three parts:

  1. the two page Application Form;
  2. the Four Generation Ancestor Chart; and
  3. the 500 word Patriotic Themed Essay.

Prizes and recognitions may also be awarded and may vary at the Chapter level.  The competition is conducted in three phases:

  • Local or Chapter Level
  • State (Georgia Society) Level
  • National Level

The competition is usually entered through the Chapter level.  In some cases, the competition may be entered at the State level.  You may not enter at the National level.

The Georgia Society submission deadline for applications is December 31.  Chapter deadlines are typically December 15.  Refer to the BSA Council/Chapter Sponsor listings for local contact information.  If there is no one in your area to submit an application to you may submit directly to Bill Coffeen, the Georgia Society SAR Eagle Scout Committee Chair at Contact Me or contact him directly for further information at 770-757-8147.
