Samuel Elbert Chapter

The Samuel Elbert Chapter was founded December 1, 1996 by Rev. Jack R. Bozeman who was, at that time, President of the Georgia Society, SAR (Note: He later served two terms as president of the Samuel Elbert Chapter). The chapter is located in Elbert County, Georgia, and serves several adjoining counties in North Georgia with membership.  It was named after Gen. Samuel Elbert who fought for the Patriots out of Savannah, captured twice, and was named the first Governor of Georgia.  He was at the Battle of Yorktown.  The charter members were: President – Robert Heard, Vice President – Charles Cecchini, Treasurer – Leon Stratton, Secretary – Russell Slaton, Registrar – William Banks Sr., Chaplain – William Ross Banks, Jr. and Kirk Bozeman, James Louis Bradley, L. H. Hunt, Charles Mann, Thomas Sigman Sr., Thomas Sigman, Jr.,  Thomas Sigman III,  Timothy  Sigman, Larry Wilson, Marion Slaton, Clyde Adams, Brown Thompson, and Sherriff Gene Anderson.

The Samuel Elbert Chapter meets quarterly – March, June, September, and December-the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm. Visitors are welcome

Our big events throughout the year are: 1) Battle of Vann’s Creek Ceremony on the first Saturday in December at 11:00 am-open to all citizens; 2) gravesite ceremonies announced throughout the year (Note: The chapter has honored 39 veterans – Rev. War Soldiers (Sept. 10th, 2013).
