Memorial Day at Oconee Veterans Park Memorial – 11:00 AM

May 26 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

OCONEE VETERANS PARK, Watkinsville, Ga. – The Oconee Veterans Memorial Foundation, Inc. will host a Memorial Day program on May 26th at the Oconee County Veterans Memorial located at Oconee Veterans Park. The program will begin at 11:00am.

This year’s program will include the lighting of memorial candles, special music, and guest speaker, Dr. Henry H. Heard, DHSc, PA-C, Colonel (Ret.) The traditional laying of wreaths will occur at the end of the program.  Dr. Henry H. Heard is a seasoned healthcare leader with over 40 years of experience as a Physician Assistant in multiple specialties, including emergency medicine, neurosurgery, and orthopedics. A former Associate Professor at Mercer University, he has taught over 1,000 PA students and continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member. Dr. Heard is also a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, honored with the Legion of Merit, and was the first PA to command an Air Force hospital in Iraq. He holds advanced degrees in health science, military studies, and orthopedic PA practice. A published author and licensed commercial pilot, Dr. Heard brings a wealth of clinical, academic, and leadership experience to every audience.

Veteran Organizations are encouraged to set up display tents beginning at 10:00am to share information and encourage Veteran membership. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, as seating will be limited. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside the Community Center at Oconee Veterans Park.

The Foundation is pleased to announce that additional names are being accepted for future engraving on the reverse side of the North Wall of Honor as part of Phase III of the Memorial. General donations are encouraged to help support the ongoing maintenance of the Memorial grounds.

All proceeds from Phase III will go toward construction and upkeep of the wall, as well as the presentation of the 39 Killed in Action names from Oconee County.  This project is made possible in part by generous support from the Reverend John Andrew Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Oconee State Bank, Wells Fargo, Oconee Foundations, LLC, Ruppert Landscape, and many other Friends of the Memorial.

Wall of Honor nomination forms will be available at the ceremony. Please help us spread the word as we continue to honor our fallen heroes.
