National (DC) – Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC – 2:00 PM

As we have discussed in passing, I would very much like to get a good showing from the national color guard at this year’s National Memorial Day Parade. PG Dodd and the incoming C.A.R. national president are both scheduled to attend.
As there are some misconceptions about the parade unit, I wanted to state clearly that the unit is the NSSAR unit — not VASSAR or GW Chapter. I have facilitated the NSSAR unit through the GW Chapter for many years, but it has always been intended to be a national society effort. NSSAR has always provided the certificate of insurance for the group. Although this is not an easy one because of its location on the National Mall, there are very few parade opportunities we have with as much public exposure and media amplification.
The parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024. I am working on an earlier event that would help make this a two-fer for any color guardsmen who make the trip. Additionally, the GW Chapter awards a chapter-level medal to participants in the parade unit.
All of that is a long way of respectfully requesting that you put this on the color guard calendar. Perhaps you might also consider letting me make a pitch for participation at your meeting during Spring Leadership.
