  Edward Hammett arrived in Georgia about 1767 with his father Robert Hammett Sr. and mother Sitha Hammett. He was part of Robert Carr's Militia protecting the Wilkes County community from Indians and Tories. Service 1778, State of Georgia Dr. (drawn) to Robert Carr for Ranging as Captain of the Militia in Wilkes County by order of Col. John Dooly
