    • Notes
      • F.L. "Pete" Strickland was a member of the Atlanta Chapter SAR, National #140244, State #2577. Pete Strickland grew up on the farm of his great-great- grandfather in Meriwether County, GA, on Strickland Town Road. He attended West Georgia College where he played on its baseball team. In East Point, Georgia, Feodor Leslie Strickand and Charlotte Mildred Ruth Smith were married on Februrary 14, 1941. By summer, July 1, 1941, Feoder L. Strickland registered for the WWII draft. He was later drafted in 18 March 1943, at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia, and was stationed in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Hickam Army Air Base in Hawaii.
      • After World War II he worked for Sears and Roebuck Company in Atlanta at the main store on Ponce de Leon. He later graduated from the University of Georgia - Atlanta Division (now GA State University), and retired from Sears in 1984, at age 65. He was the Sears Southeastern District Manager for Catalog Sales and Distribution. His second home was at Lake Burton in Rabun County, GA, where his four daughters, Charlene, Linda, Cynthia, and Leslie, were found on weekends and holidays growing up.
      • Charlotte Mildred Ruth Smith, born 14 Sep 1921, Gwinnett County, GA, married 14 Feb 1941, East Point, Fulton County, GA, died 18 Jun 2010, in Snellville, Georgia.
      • F.L. "Pete" Strickland was his Strickland lineage expert. He said, "Growning up on the farm, sittng on the front porch in the evenings, year after year, (no TV & Radio only on Saturday nights) listening to elders share his family tree planted the seed." In the 1990s he began organizing his SAR Membership Application with pencil, paper, and only his "front porch" knowledge that enabled him at this first sitting to provide information for four to six generations with maiden names. Later research discovered all primary source documents by generation for completing his SAR membership.
      • His compassion for genealogy was carried on with his four daughters, who are members of William Day Chapter of the Georgia State Society of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution: two are members of Jamestowne Society; two are members of Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters 1606-1616; two are members of the National Society Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America; two are members of the National Society of the Sons and Daughters of Pilgrims; two are members of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century; and one daughter is a member of the National Society Daughters of American Colonists.
      • Grandchildren called him "Big Daddy;" the Atlanta Chapter SAR called him "Compatriot." Both respected his genealogy quest in remembrance of his ancestors. His legacy of family history carried on further as a granddaughter has embraced her Big Daddy's quest with membership in all the above lineage societies, including giving multi-years of service as a State Officer in the Georgia State Society of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
      • The Patriot Ancestor of Feodor L. "Pete" Strickland was Solomon Strickland of Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Solomon Strickland married Amy Pace and her great-great-grandfather was Richard Pace of Jamestown Settlement.
      • Grave marked by Atlanta Chapter SAR, Button Gwinnett Chapter SAR and William Day Chapter DAR
