      • Jesse Peters was born in Craven Co. NC in 1753. He moved to Georgia prior to the American Revolution and settled in the "Ceded Lands".
      • From 1773-1776 he served as a private in Barnard's Rangers (British). Jesse Peters entered service as s private in the 3rd Georgia Continental Regiment in Augusta on October 8, 1776. Jesse was recruited by John Dooly. He was present at the two engagements at Brier Creek (GA) and at Stono Ferry (SC). Gen. Lachlan McIntosh discharged him from service on June 20, 1779. After his enlistment ended, he returned to the "Ceded Lands" which became Wilkes Co. GA.
      • Jesse Peters was originally granted a pension filed in Oglethorpe Co. GA on 17 Sep 1818. The Pension Office Washington, DC made a mistake as they recorded his given name as John. Thomas W. Cobb, US Representative from Georgia wrote to John C. Calhoun, the Secretary of War and had the error corrected. In 1820 Jesse was dropped from the pension rolls as a result of the "Alarm Act" of 1820. Congress found itself unprepared for the large number of pension applications and, consequently reduced the number of people on the roll. In 1833, in the State of Georgia Carroll County, he applied for a pension and it was granted

      • Jesse and his family lived in the section of that county which became Oglethorpe County. About 1821-1822 the family moved to Walton Co. GA. Somtime after 1830 he moved with his son William to Carroll Co. GA. It was here that he filed for his pension a second time. Sometime during the first half of 1839, Jesse passed away.
      • It is not known when he married his wife Martha (her maiden name is unknown). They had four known children: Martha (Patsy), Jesse, Jr., John, and William M.
      • His gravesite is unknown, but is believed to be in what is now Haralson Co. just north of the present day city of Tallapoosa. In the early 2000's, a local historical group secured and erected a government marker at Sparrow Chapel just off of downtown in that city.
