      • "On 12 December 1775 the Georgia Council of Safety commissioned Bugg as a "senior second lieutenant" in the Georgia Militia. He subseguently served as a first lieutenant of the 3rd Troop, Georgia Continental Light Horse. On 29 July 1776 he received pay as an officer in the Light Horse.
      • He fought in the Battle of Beard's Bluff in December 1776 and the Battle of Ogeechee Ferry I in November 1781 where he was wounded and captured.
      • On 13 December of that same year he received orders to stand trial by court martial in Savannah.
      • William signed the Georgia Declaration of Independence in Richmond County on July 25, 1777.
      • By 1779 he apparently received a promotion to captain in that service.Indian warriors surprised LT Bugg's detachment near Beard's Bluff early in January of 1777. In the ensuing ambush in the swamp the indians killed three or four of Bugg's men and defeated his party. An express arrived for the regimental commander on 3 January that LT Bugg could get only two men to stay with him at the fort. On 7 January LTC McIntosh ordered Bugg back to Beard's Bluff.
      • On 2 November 1781 the British wounded and captured him at the White House. He served to the close of the war. Post-Revolution: William Bugg settled in Richmond County, Georgia after the Revolution. Mrs. Peggy Bugg, wife of William Bugg, died on 29 June 1804.       • He served to the close of the war. Post-Revolution: William Bugg settled in Richmond County, Georgia.
      • Married Margaret Paris in 1780 in Lunenburg County, VA. William and Margaret had three children: Samuel Bugg (1789-1837); Elizabeth C. Bugg (1792-1864); and William M. Bugg, Jr. (1795-1823).
      • Mrs. Peggy Bugg, wife of William Bugg, died on 29 June 1804. William died on 28 October 1819 at the age of 70.
