  Capt. John Venable was from a prominant Virgimia Family. His ancestor, Abraham Venable was a Burgess from Louisa County, VA for 20 years. One of his sons, William Venable nominated Patrick Henry for the House of Burgesses in 1765. Capt. Venable was prominent before and after the Revolutionary War. In 1776 he served as Commissioner of Provision Laws in Bedford County, VA. John Venable married 1762 in VA, to Agnes( Agatha) Moorman,(Daughter of Charles Moorman of VA). Agnes , b. 26 Feb.1743, Cedar Creek, Louisa County, VA; d. 26 Feb. 1809, Jackson County, GA In the Revolutionary War he with other family members fought at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, NC. (see Wheeler's History of NC, p.165). He also served as Quartermaster and Commissary under General Nathaniel Greene. He ended his military service on October 10th, 1781 at New London, VA. . In 1783 he was sued in New London District Court by Mr. John Hook for taking two steers as Commissary during the War which were used to feed hungry troops. He was defended in court by Patrick Henry. The jury returned a verdict of "Not Guilty".
