- Compatriot Holcombe had a long working career that included Bates and Woods Supermarket, Lockheed Martin, General Motors and finally retiring after 25 years with Piedmont Hospital.
- His great interest in genealogy led him to seek membership in the Sons of the American Revolution; becoming a member of the Piedmont Chapter.
- He was always very passionate about gardening, and after retiring from Piedmont, he immersed himself in his passion. He is best known for his great skill in growing tomatoes. He will also be remembered by many happy customers from his garden stand.
- He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church.
- He proudly served in the US Marine Corp. from 1951 to 1953 in Europe.
- He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bedingfield Holcombe; children, Rebecca Kent of Cumming, Wanda Holcombe of Fayetteville, Jerry Holcombe (Nila) of Lake Oswego, OR; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles Holcombe of Alpharetta, Bobby Holcombe (Betty Sue) of Milledgeville, Martha Wise of Plains, Betty Ferguson of Cumming, Barbara Sanders of Lake City, FL., Dianne Tidwell (Bob) of Cumming, Roger Holcombe (Mildred) of Cumming; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
