- James Grimes, Sr. was born about November in 1747, moved with his family to Duplin County; and died there in 1831. James married Sarah Winders of Duplin County on February on February 19, 1777. They were the parents of 8 sons and 4 daughters. James served as a PRIVATE IN THE DUPLIN CO., NC MILITIA. He received a land grant in Duplin County on 20 October, 1778 for his Oath of Allegiance.
