- Col. Vance was President General of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in 1993-1994, having served previously as President of the Atlanta Chapter and the Georgia Society. He was the recipient of the following prestigious SAR Medals: Minuteman, Patriot, Meritorious Service, Silver Good Citizenship, Florence Kandall and Distinguished Service. In addition, the DAR awarded Col. Vance their Medal of Honor.
Col. Vance served in the Army during WWII where he was a Company Commander in the Philippines-Luzon and during which he received two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star Medal for Gallantry in Action and a Bronze Star for Valor and cluster for Heroism in Ground Combat, and several other commendations. The recent movie the Great Raid memorializes Col. Vance’s combat heroism. He retired from the military at Ft. McPherson, Third U.S. Army, as G-3 Plans and Operations Officer.
Col. Vance enjoyed a successful business career as Vice President and General Manager of the Chemical Division of Genesco Corp. and, later, as Founder and President of Marigold Corporation and Robert B. Vance & Associates. In addition, he was an active member in the Old Guard of the Gate City Guard for more than 20 years.
