- Ben joined the Army National Guard in 1959 and was trained at Ft. Knox, Kentucky as a tank driver. After he returned home, he went to work for the US Postal Service in Atlanta, GA unloading box cars, then as a clerk and later a walking mail carrier. He retired from the East Point Branch having served as Supervisor. After retirement, Ben became interested in the SAR and joined the Capt. Samuel Butts Chapter in Jackson, GA. He served as Vice President, Registrar, Assistant Treasurer, President for three terms. Ben joined the Color Guard and served as Commander and Field Commander attending many grave markings in GA and leading the Color Guard at Kings Mountain and Cowpens. He was the first in GA to receive the Bronze and Silver Color Guard Medal of which he was so proud. Ben received many medals from the GA State Society, including the DAR Medal of Honor and CAR Silver Medal of Appreciation.
He married Jo Anne Floyd Miller on 14 Jun 1958.
