Pierce served in the Continental Militia and living in Wilkes County, would place him at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. He did not apply for a federal pension. The family lived in the Morgan District of Wilkes County and his cabin has been donated to the Western Carolina University. He was listed as head of the household in the first census taken in North Carolina in 1790.
