- PATRIOT LEDFORD first entered service as a trooper in Co. OF CALVARY commanded by CAPT.JOHN KNIGHT, LT. ELIJAH WILLIAMS AND COL.THOMAS DUGAN in Randolph Cty, N. CAROLINA. He enlisted in the N. CAR. MILITIA on MARCH 1, 1781. They marched in pursuit of COL. FANNING, Tory commander in Randolph Cty to the border of S. CAROLINA. He fought COL. FANNING at the BATTLE OF GUILFORD COURTHOUSE.
