- James was born in Maryland and migrated to Virginia and North Carolina where he served in the Militia.
After the war he and his family settled in the Pendleton District of South Carolina where he raised his family. He owned a large tract of land near where he is buried. James and Mary were charter members of Holly Springs Baptist Church. After his death and his wife Mary, most of his children moved to Georgia and Arkansas.
