- John S. Strange Sr. was born 2 February 1742, at Halifax, Virginia to Owen and Elizabeth (Sisson) Strange. He married Martha Starling in 1767. They possibly had 4 sons: Seth born 1772 in Virginia; Starling born in 1776 in Virginia; John S. Strange Jr., who preceded his father in death; and Allan.
- John registered for military service in 1776. He served under Colonel Brandon in the 5th Virginia Regiment. Sometime between 1776 and 1798, John Strange and his family moved to Union, South Carolina, where he owned several hundred acres of land. There he served on the jury in 1789.

- John and Martha moved in 1800 to Franklin County, Georgia, near the waters of Upper Nails Creek. They owned 380 acres on which was established their permanent home place. Today this being the historic home that was put put together with wooden pegs. John also built a grist mill at a shoal on Nails Creek.
- John Strange was a successful drawer in the Georgia Land Lottery of 1827, who received extras draws as a Revolutionary War Soldier. In 1827, John Strange also prepared his final Will.
- On 11 November 1830, Revolutionary War Soldier John Strange died, and was buried 300 yards behind his home place on a knoll in the Strange Family Cemetery. Three years later, Martha, his wife, was laid to rest next to him.
- The Patriot John Strange Biography was given at his Patriot Grave Marking ceremony on Saturday, 21 May 2022, by the Joseph Habersham Chapter SAR, President Lyn Cash, the Master of Ceremonies. Compatriot Lyn Cash said to the attending descendants, property owners, guests, members of the SAR, DAR, GASSAR Color Guard members, GASSAR members of the Colonel Elijah Clarke Musket Firing Militia unit, and Other Lineage Organizations the following.
