William Norris was born in Johnson County, NC and died at Cataula, Harris County, GA. He was buried in Rehoboth Cemetery, South of Cataula GA. He married Nancy Watkins 17 Feb 1792 in Wilkes County, GA. They had 12 children. The patriot's first enlistment was May 1777 and he served as a Private until 1778 under Capt. Goodman in Malmedy's North Carolina regiment. In the Fall of 1781 he served three months as a Lieutenant under Captain Kingston. He re-enlisted 10 Aug 1782 as a Private in Capt. John Graham's company. He served in the battles of Brier Creek, Georgia, Stono and Camden, SC. He received a pension.
